Personal Responsibility Essay Example for Free
Personal Responsibility EssayPersonal obligation is extremely classic in lifetime because it dictates the quality of your life. Your life is directly affected by the level of ad hominem state you practice. The definition of personal obligation is vague and broad. It is like to defining a personality trait that implys several traits in one. These traits include ethics, moral decisions, freedom of choice, self-discipline and accountability. Personal responsibility similarly plays a merry role in your victory as a student.Your success as a college student has a direct correlation with personal responsibility. As a college student it is also crucial to have strategies in place for your success. Having a plan on how you be waiver to succeed keeps you on track and avails you to produce your personal responsibility. Personal responsibility does not have the same meaning for everyone or the value that is placed on this practice. What is Personal Responsibility Responsibi lity is something that exists in the lives of everyone. On a daily basis we are required to satisfy some form of personal responsibility. If I had to define the word personal responsibility I would define it as consistently following through with what needs to be done and establishing a level of self-discipline and trust. The dictionary states the definition of responsibility as the state, quality or fact of beingness responsible a duty, obligation or burden. There are many levels of responsibility financial responsibility, sparing responsibility, professional responsibility, and so on. I want to elaborate on personal responsibility. I desire this particular level also incorporates ethics and morals in its definition as well.Moral responsibilities are equally pervasive, in that we are vulnerable human beings, caring for and cared by others. Moral sentiments relate to things that we have reasonableness to value, moving us into action (Sanghara, Ablezova, Botoeva, 2011). Personal responsibility encompasses your ethical beliefs which also requires you to admit to your mistakes. It seems we live in a world where that is not practiced as often as it should.Doing the right thing whether or not it is witnessed by others is a key part of taking personal responsibility for your actions (Tracey, 2011). The demise of personal responsibility occurs when individuals blame their family, their peers, their economic circumstances, or their society for their own failure to meet standards (Haskins, 1996). It is so easy to place the blame of your problems on your purlieu. I believe this particular part of personal responsibility is the hardest to practice. If we all took the time to be aware of our lack of acceptance of our problems and started placing the blame on our own failures, we as individuals pull up stakes have a whole new sense of freedom. This new freedom flush toilet be comparable to a weight being lifted of our shoulders and we can finally start taking contro l of our lives. This particular part of personal responsibility should be included in the dictionary definition because I believe it is easily over looked. Personal responsibility also encompasses our right of freedom. Our level of responsibility is surrounded by choices. We have the freedom to choose how we are going to fufill our obligations, the level of accountability we display, and whether or not we will accept when we made a mistake. The example is condemmed to be free, and to decide for himself/herself.Such a freedom is also related to his or her own responsibility, because his or her decisions will have to be made without any refrence to any higher ethical norm else that the one the subject is defining for himself (Ballet, Dubois, Mahie, 2007). In other words, we are able to make our choices of responsibility and we do not have to answer to anyone. This makes it easier to make irresponsible choices. We are degree centigrade percent in charge of our outcomes. This makes i t imperative for us to use our freedom wisely.Consistently choosing to be responsible, accountable, and ethical creates a foundation for a happier life. This equates to our life being in our hands and no one elses. In my definition of personal responsibility I used the word self-discipline and trust. I believe these twain statuss are key components of the act of being responsible. If someone is consitently responsible you know that you will be able to trust that person with something that is important to you. A responsible person has a proven track record of following through with their obligations or the obligations of others.Self-discipline goes along with freedom. Freedom, in essence, is a priveledge that must be exercised properly. The abilty to recognize freedom is crucial and to do the right thing is a key element of personal responsibility. Self-discipline is the restraint that is necessary to stay deep down the ethical boundaries of decision making and it is the power you have inside you to finish all the necessary tasks that are in front of you. There are obligations that we are required to fulfill, unless nearly of the time we do not have to answer to anyone when we do not meet our obligations.Consequences are most always present, but tend not to be enough to stop us from our irresponsible actions. a responsible agent is one who is self-conciously self-determined (Spector, 2008). Personal responsibilty is having the knowledge to say no when certain situations arise and that comes with self-discipline. Personal Responsibility and College Success The level of personal responsibility you practice will directly affect the amount of success you master in higher education.Your work load can essentially double while you are in a college setting because this type of learning environment usually consists of adults that have jobs and families. College success will require you to make moral and ethical decisions, exercise self-discipline, and be accountab le. All of these terms are related and include personal responsibility which can be summed up with this citation, Its the absolute minimum requirement for the consummation of everything you could ever in reality want in life (Tracey, 2011).Personal responsibility is required in our daily lives and is required for college success in the same regard. We are in charge of our outcomes and if the outcome we are melodic line for in college is success with a degree, we have nothing standing in our way. The only thing we need to do is be aware of the level of responsibility we currently have and the level of personal responsibility we need to maintain. With this in mind, meeting the demands of a college student can be easily managed. Effective Strategies to be a Successful StudentTo fully incorporate personal responsibility in your college life it is beneficial to be prepared. Being prepared includes coming in with some type of idea and organization. A very simple and effective way to m anage the demands of college is preparing schedules. A daily schedule helps you to prioritize your obligations and tasks. They also format less stress on you depending on your memory. A schedule will allow for you to add time when a important project is coming up and you need to prepare in stages. This adding of time will allow for you to attend to your personal obligations while making time for your school obligations. It also gives you the sense of accomplishment when you are able to start crossing off your schedule. This accomplishment in turn gives motivation for you to stay on top of your duties and stay consistent. Another important strategy for college success is utilizing all the available resources colleges have available. Many institutions provide access to libraries with faculty ready and willing to help whenever you need to ask. This can really ease the stress level when you have major projects or papers due. They are familiar with the college and faculty and are able to give you approprate advice. Also on the faculty of many colleges are counselors. These individuals are trained to guide you in course selection and degree plans. They are familiar with the schools curriculum and requirements and can help you make informed decisions. Higher learning institutions may also provide programs that include child care to job placement. Taking advantage of these programs is vital to maintaing your success while in college. Most importantly, one of the best strategies for college success is setting goals for yourself. Goals can be set in a variety of areas which makes goals so helpful. The most important part to remember about setting goals is to write them down so you can visualize your goals daily. You can set short term goals and include steps to how you are going to achieve them. You can, at the same time, set long term goals. Your short term goals will be steps to getting to your long term. You can also stay motivated about your goals by placing rewards when you do achieve them.I belive these strategies are important ingredients to college success and can be implemented by maintaining consistent levels of personal responsibility. This clearly shows that a person cannot only be defined in a consistent way by a series of added characteristics, whether they be rights, capabilities, or freedoms (Ballet, Dubois, Mahie, 2007). Conclusion Personal responsibility is a trait that everyone obtains, and everyone practices personal responsibility in different ways. The key to a productive lifestyle is practicing your level of personal responsibility to the highest degree. And with that practice to always engage in moral and ethical behaviors as well. I believe in consitently staying responsible in all your tasks and this in turn can open the doorway to accomplishing all of your dreams. We hold the power and the control of our destiny and it all starts with the term personal responsibility. Utilzing personal responsibilty in all aspects of your life is the key to your happiness and your future. Take it from the wise words of Abraham Lincoln, You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today.

Different arguments and concepts were presented by these researchers scattericularly how HR practices could affect brass instrument runance how economic and social context shapes HR strategies and practices of organisations the new organisational forms and relationships and the importance of knowledge forethought and learning in the workplace. both organization understands the need of HRM practise in selection and recruitment plow. By doing so they prep bed particular recruitment and selection plan according to the need of their give organization. Mc Donalds and SSP Ltd collaborated with different university to train up their manager a ccording to their need. Most of the big franchises be tied up with different universities to train their staff in hospitality and piece Resource Management. They are very important procedure of the organization and different from separately other.3.1 Bright FeaturesSSP is promoting itself as food and travel expert, so giving the best possible attend to guest is at the heart of SSP strategy. As a top it is important for the company to maintain cutomer satisfaction. So to maintained customer satisfaction employee job satisfaction is vital as dissatisfied worker may not provide good service to the customers. One who is happy at work place is more apt(predicate) to influence other in a corroborative manner to make other happy. i n that locationfore, to increase the satisfaction of customer it is important that employees at different level working for SSP are satisfied. Both at management level as well as ground level were actual customer service is being delivered. Every research encountered by limitation. The study is undertaken in a small sample group from the hospitality industry and fast food industry. There are many organizations in the industry and many more way of selecting and recruiting people. This is a major limitation of the study as the finding only concentrates a particular organization. A larger sample size would give the chance to go through more selective information and also the application of both personal and HR functions. It can also be possible to investigate variety of examples of organizational practise if t he sample size is larger. It would be better to investigate more than two organizations recruitment and selection process, but due to time constraint this could not be achieved. The researcher selected two group of people one pass through the selection process and get recruited and the other group who is looking for job or attempted but failed to pass the recruitment process. Data are gathered from different sources for the study each source has been described with the method used.Chapter 5 At the end of the dissertation a thorough indication and endpoint of the current research have been drawn. Other important part of this chapter is to describe the contribution and benefit of this dissertation. Based on the research results nigh recommendations have been given followed by limitations of the current study, and future research.2. Literature review 32502.1. IntroductionThe relevant literature review of this study is discussed in this chapter. The previous chapter has been discussed about introduction of the study which discussed the motivation and background, the aims and objective of the study and also the structure of the study. The chapter starts with a brief discussion about HRM and the role of HRM in recruitment and selection. The relevant theory about recruitment and selection are discussed followed by their process. The factors influencing the recruitment and selection process are also discussed. The historical work of previous researcher are also discussed and used as a guideline for further research.2.2. The role of HRMThe key characteristic of the HRM approach is the involvement of the personal function at a strategic level. The increased globalisation of busyness world and a very competitive market has triggered the emergence pf human resource management. Personnel management is the part of an organization which is concerned with people at work and their relationship with the enterprise. Personnel management aims to achieve both effic iency and justice. It seeks to provide fair call and conditions of employment, and satisfying work for those employed (Cole, 2002).The modern human resource management has emerged from traditional personal management. Human resource management is defined as a strategic and dour approach to the management of an organizations most valuable assets the people working there who individually and collectively contribute to the achievement of its objectives (Armstrong 2006). It is the people who always represent the organization in front of the public, so the management of people inside the organization is very important. And it is the trained and skilled staffs that generate the profit and give the organization a better position in the market. Organizations now days even compete about their staff that who has the better staff. They even hire independent organization to taste the service between different companies and based on that report they improve their service and organization. The synergy is achieved when the approaches are practiced all together. When practices are implemented together and synergistically then it is called bundles. The concept of bundling has defined strict definition but finds its roots in the concept of internal fit genuine in the strategic human resource management literature (Bowen and Ostroff, 2004). The organization can deliver better service if all part of their business is providing a quality service and thus the organization as a whole performs better. If an organization implement couple of high performance work practise in their workplace that will not make a big difference as they are s till lacking in many other part of organization skills. recollect the organization implement aggroup work as their high performance achievement but the total team performance will depend not only on one colleague but the performance of all colleagues. Different team members can have different issue with organization which ability affect their p erformance so that also make a difference on the collective performance of the team work. Employment motivation is also a very important fact in case of team work.In 1998, British Workforce Relation survey (WERS) conduct a survey among the employer in Britain and found that there are some account of key human resourse management practise among British organisations that includes careful recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, training and team working. The survey also found some evidence of the consolidation of human resource management practise and survey(Cully et al.1999).There are two different side of the survey which is visible through data, the practice of human resource management in British organization is widespread but the level of strategic integration of these practises is quit low. Cully et al found is his research that only 15 percent of the role of training in 265 workplaces had a majority of the human resource management in place. Studies of high performa nce work systems have also shown a similar pattern relatively common adoption of individual practices but undersized evidence of widespread integration (Appelbaum et al., 2000).2.3. RecruitmentThere are few definitions available of recruitment. Recruitment involves actions and activities taken by an organization in order to diagnose and attract individuals to the organization who have capabilities to help the organization realize its strategic objective. Breaugh gave the following definition of recruitment Employee recruitment involves those organisational activities that 1) influence the number and /or the types of applicants who pay for a position and /or 2)affect whether a job offer is accepted. Edwin Flipo states that recruitment is the process of searching for prospective candidate and stimulating them to apply for the job.(Edwin Flipo, 2001)Recruitment includes the set of activities undertaken by the organisation for the primary purpose of identifying a desirable group of applicant, attracting them into its employee ranks, and retaining them at least for short time. (Taylor Collins, 2000).Recruitment involves actions and activities taken by an organisation in order to identify and attract individuals to the organisation who can help the organisations achieve their target and goal. Recruitment has emerged as arguably the most critical human resource management functions for organisational survival and success. Many organisations have increased their budget for recruitment.2.3.1. Principal of recruitment processThere are number of important characteristic in recruitment definitions. Firstly the process involves specific actions and activities that are undertaken to achieve particular outcome. Secondly in indicates that the purpose of those activities are to generate a pool of candidate to enhance their interest towards the organisations and eventually to accept a job offer in the organisation. The third important characteristic is that it the number o f people attracted towards the process susceptibility have the capabilities to be hired but it depends on the selection process where the overqualified and under qualified people will be excluded from the process. Fourthly the recruitment is the process where any post hire process are not discussed because recruitment is the process to influence candidate to apply for the advertise jobs and accept the job offer.2.3.2. office and importance of recruitmentThere are some purpose and importance of recruitment which required to be clearly defined in any research. The importance can described as follows1. Determine the present and the future demands of the organisation on conjunction with its personnel - cookery and job analysis activities.2. To keep the cost stripped-down and also attracting maximum candidate.3. As selection process depends on recruitment process it is the job of the recruitment process to increase the success rate of selection process by reducing the under qualified or overqualified job applicant.4. It is also the recruitment process where the it is given priority that the recruited candidate stays inside the organisation for maximum number of year.5. Organisations legal and social obligation about the ratio of recruited people whether ethnic, local or gender in its workforce is also served through recruitment.6. Recruitment is the first step where the potential job applicants are identified.7. By practising the daily job the effectiveness of different recruiting techniques and sources of all types of job applicants are explored.2.3.3. Recruitment processIn recruitment process identifying and attracting qualified candidate is the most important aspect. There are five interrelated steps about recruitment process. They are-Planningstrategic developmentSearchingScreeningEvaluation and control2.3.1. PlanningPlanning is the first stage of the recruitment process. It involves about the nihility and the duty surrounded by that role. Planning also ga ve an clear idea about number of candidate and the type of candidate applying for the job. An important part of the planning is to attract more people than the organisation needed so that they can choose the right candidate and also attracting the type of candidate similar to the advertisement.2.3.2. Strategic developmentAfter deciding how many people are required and what qualification required the management concentrate in the strategic development. Different companies have different view about strategic development. The first thing is to decide in strategic development is to decide whether to recruit someone with past accept or whether to recruit someone with fresh knowledge and invest towards the future training of that employee. After deciding the eligibility of the employee the organisations look different medium to advertise the job and which labour market they want to target. All these activities are inside the strategic development of recruitment.2.3.3. SearchingThe search ing process begins after the planning and strategic development. If the first two processes run well then in searching process the organisation should receive many application because at this stage the medium is aroused as the HR manager gives green signal about vacancy inside the organisation. All the application must be screened and after careful viewing the candidates who passed should called for interview and the candidates did not pass should sent letter explaining the reason of failure. Another important criteria about searching process is to pass the proper massage through the proper channel. And it is the duty of searching option that maximum attention gets from the candidate by avoiding the undesirables.2.3.4. ScreeningThe selection process begins after a carefully scrutinizing the candidate at the recruitment process. However good the attraction process it is probable that there will be more candidates than positions to be filled and often the case there that there will candidates than can be realistically taken on to the next stage of more time consuming selection processes such as interviewing and bear witnessing. The reason for screening inside the recruitment process is that selection process starts only after candidates are short listed for the next stage.2.3.4. Sources of recruitmentThere are two types how recruitment are processed in an organisation. They are internal recruitment and external recruitment.2.3.4.1. Internal recruitmentThe advantages of internal recruitment are that financial costs associated with recruiting can be saved by internal recruiting. It will also save training costs and time as the employee will have insight knowledge of the organization (Wanous, 1992). There are some tools organisation uses for internal recruitment.Promotions and transfersPromotions and transfers are very important role for internal recruitment. Promotions have very positive role inside the organisations as they encourage colleague, built moral at tributes among employee. Through this process organisations can build employee by their need and as those employees are serving for a long time for the company they feel for their organisation.Employee referralsWhen an employee is working for an organisation for a long time they know the need of the organisation and sometime they refer employees according the need of the organisation. This way organisation can sometime get high skilled employee but in a very minimum cost. Another positive side about employee reference is through this employer are fulfilling their social obligation and establishing goodwill.Former employeesAnother source of internal recruitment is former employee. Former employees sometimes return to the organisation for better career growth and also sometime after in another job they can compare which is better this way they can differentiate which employee is better.2.3.4.2. outside recruitmentExternal recruitment makes is possible interview a wide a cranial orbi t of candidate and chose from that selection. Sometimes employer need to pump some fresh blood inside their organisation to get some new business ideas and also to put some energy inside the organisation. But sometimes company end up with huge cost for hiring external employees but they are not as qualified as their curriculum vita says.AdvertisementThe most popular method of job recruitment is the advertisement through different medium. Employers describe the job responsibilities and requirement of the job followed by how to apply and by which date they have to apply. The most popular medium of advertisement are the newspaper, company website and different jobsite which post job from different company. Most people apply through this medium and sometimes company also promote themselves through these advertisements. passe-partout and trade associationProfessional association for trade and technical bodied are very active in the field of recruitment and selection. They provide employe r with people according to their need and those professionals are trained with international standard. Like for accountant and technical jobs are always preferred by the professional bodies. Now days there are some websites like linked in which network among different professional people.Walk in storeAnother popular method among the employee or ob seeker for different store and food shops are known as walk in store. Company advertise in front of the stores or there is a particular place where companies hired. In Europe and other western countries where the chain stores are established they managed to recruit people from their own recruitment centre. In this process mostly entry level and unskilled employees are hired. Employer sometime announces open day recruitment for hiring people. SelectionSelection is the process where employer chooses from a pool of candidate who is best suitable for the organisation. From the beginning of the selection process till the end selecting the right candidate is the only objective and to do that there are different test that employer choose to differentiate among the candidate. Selection is a process of differentiating between applicants in order to identify those with a greater likelihood of a success in a job. (Stone, 1999)Selection is a very positive process through which right candidates comes out.2.4.1. preliminary exam interviewThe first step of the selection process is the preliminary interview process which comprises the work to scrutiny the candidate based on their application and also eliminates the unqualified candidate. For HR managers scrutiny is the process to eliminate candidate based on the information provided on their application. Preliminary interview is the next available step for selection. Preliminary interview helps get that information which is not in the available in the application form. It can be held formally or informally, over the telephone or in a coffee shop. It helps HR manager to get an idea how many applicants can make it through the next stage and eventually will go forward. The interview processes are different in different countries. In UK they are more incorporated type. In UK they said that the more information you get about a person the reliable the person and the more valid and reliable your judgment is. Tixier in a survey in EU (but excluding France) Sweden, Switzerland and Austria found that structured interview were favoured in the UK, Scandinavia, Germany and Austria. This contrasted with Italy, Portugal, Luxembourg and Switzerland where unstructured were preferred (Tixer, 1996)2.4.2. Selection testThe essential measure in choosing supplementary method is that they should provide information that is directly related to performance on the job. This should be the guiding principal both in choosing ready-made tests and in designing exercises tailor-made for a particular workplace. In their review of what they call personal testing, Murphy and Davidshofer (2001) stress that better results are obtained the more most a test, such as work sample test, resembles things that are actually done in the job concerned. A related issue that candidate can easily see the point of a test that requires them to do something they know will be done on the job.Psychological testingThe term mental tests are also known as psychometric test. They are developed to judge people based on their different capability. They are professionally developed and checked for reliability and validity. They are administered and scored in a standardized manner. The results found from these tests can be compared to norms for relevant population. The standardised administration of tests means all applicants answer the same questions in the same condition and obje ctive scoring means that the scores are not open to individual interpretation as is the case with interview responses.Intelligence testIntelligence test is the most widely practised test in the selection process. The ranges of skills cover are verbal, arithmetical and diagrammatical reasoning. Selection team use intelligence test as one of the first tool to judge a candidate.Ability testAbility test are more specific test designed for individual to show their ability towards a particular test. How well a person can perform in a job can also be tested through this. There are two type of ability test one is attainment test and the other is readiness test. Attainment test assess skills and knowledge that have been acquired through experience and learning, and aptitude test measure individuals potential to develop ability. Work sample test or school exams are examples of attainment test and the use of these would not require the special training.Where as aptitude test measure whether a applicant have the ability to learn something if training is provided. Most of the time aptitude test run when the candidate has no previous experience. It gives the indication that how successfully an individual can engage in a specialized activities. There is different type of aptitude test for all sector of the organization.Test of interestThe relationship between interests and motivation and successful performance is not a straightforward one. For this reason these test are not used for selection (Smith and Robertson1993). But interest test can be used in career guidance and counselling. It gives an idea about the likings and disliking of the employee and give a hint sometimes why employee want to change their career.Personality questionnairePersonality questionnaire has been used in preference to personality test. When measuring the personality test there is no right or wrong answer rather than they are indication of habitual performance meaning that they reflect stable traits that are likely to be revealed in typical behaviour. Personality test is very important in case of job application. A person can do well in the entire test but may fall short as they have lack of motivation. It shows the maturity, interpersonal skill and behaviour in terms of difficult situation.2.4.3. Work sample testWhen recruiter asks a candidate to perform a task that is related to the work or a element which is part of the job is known as work sample test. A recruiter may ask the employee to perform a lecture or to teach a subject to a group of people as a part of work sample test if the interview is about university lecturer.2.4.4. Assessment centresAn assessment centre is a method rather than a place, although some employer, particularly large organization might have premises dedicated to assessment, especially if they use them for both selection and development purposes. (Woodruffe, 2000) In a assessment centre a number of people are assessed at the same time by a number of assessor judging their numerical skill, interpersonal skill and how they coup with their colleague. This gives the chance to the employer to compare collection of range of information and observation and evaluation the candidate. The task include in an assessment centre test is work simulation where candidate were given a real life task usually performed in job. A based on their performance it is easier for a recruiter to distinguish the potential candidate. Group exercise is another tool used in ass

An analysis of the Feminization of War
An analysis of the Feminization of struggleThrough let on history, wo men flummox engraft ways to interject themselves into combat references, whether openly or to a lower placecover. Stories about women percentage in combat roles during the American Revolution and the well-mannered War pass on spread to groups who support the idea of including women in such(prenominal) roles. However, a womans traditional role during war has been to hold things together back home while the men were responsible for presenting the nation. During the turn of the 20th century, the roles for women changed dramatically when it comes to the military. Some 33,000 women served in the US armed forces during World War I, most in the Nurse Corps more(prenominal) than ten prison terms that number served during World War II (Field). Additionally, women accomplish roles in manufacturing plants that produced the equipment vital to the war effort. Recently, women have been indirectly attached to combat ground troops where they have been placed in a position to defend themselves from foeman combatants when necessary. Female veterans such as Catherine Ross feels, she faced the same dangers as her male colleagueswhy argonnt women allowed to serve in full combat roles in the American army (Horn). Supporters make a very convincing argument for overturning the current exemption prohibiting women from serving in direct combat roles. However, Elaine Donnelly from the National Review believes otherwise. She states, Civil affairs, even in a combat zone, does non fit the definition of direct ground combat deliberate offensive action, attacking the enemy under fire Rose has therefore not actually experienced the role she is advocating for her fellow women (Horn). The assertions that other countries have overcome the problem of allowing women in combat roles have been taken out of context when the details ar studied thoroughly. Israel is a country that is frequently mentioned when debating whether women should fulfill combat roles. Dorian de Wind of the Moderate component part states, The Israeli military have actively recruited women since the snuff it of the Israeli state in 1948, and now allow women to serve in any role that men may (Horn). However, there be reports that contradict this statement. No Israeli woman has served in combat since the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 (Van Creveld). The people of Israel, including feminist groups, have any objections to this situation (Dougherty). So the question remains, Should women be allowed to fulfill full combat roles within the United States military? The answer should be unequivocally NO Women are physically incapable to handle the rigors of war, will cause a break-down in unit cohesion, and to be honest, Americans are not truly ready to expose large numbers of young women returning home in body bags. The first major problem deals with the physical capabilities of the average woman entering the mil itary. When in a combat situation, to each one member of the team will need to be able to pull their load, many times without the assistance from anyone else. One novice states, Women on average do not have the physical capability to lift a fully loaded male soldier who has been wounded under fire, in order to save his life. No one should have to die because women do not have the capability (Horn). Time is of the essence when in battle, and when a soldiers life is at stake, the unit will need capable individuals to carry-out the duties and responsibilities required to bring all(prenominal)one home safe from a dangerous mission. Most women lack those very important skills essential to combat. Some may argue to include those women who may be considered capable, but that will not be the correct answer due mostly to the disparity in physical training standards. Proponents say, There are no current tests that specifically measure the physical skills required for each military occupati on distinctiveness the only way to test this is have the soldiers simply go out and perform their task. The goal is to create these gender-blind specific tests that more accurately predict a soldiers success in combat (Willens). The promotion of such tests will be disastrous in the end. To merely, test a soldier on how well he or she carries a gun is a far cry from the unpredictability of an intense combat situation. There is no way to predict each and every task that maybe required of a soldier when a combat situation arises therefore, the task test for every specialty would only be effective to those specialties while in peace time conditions and would be thrown out in combat. As of now, men and women are held to two different standards. Men are required to do more, physically, than their female counterparts. Another critic states, If women were held to the same standards as men, more than 14 percent of our armed forces would not be women. Feminists aver that scrapping the imag e standard would be discriminatory (Kirkwood). These remarks speak for themselves. Everywhere in society, the physical standards differ between men and women. Lets consider the New York Marathon. The men and women start out at the same time and run the same course, but when it comes to finishing the race, the division begins. There is always a man that finishes the race first and suddenly afterwards, the first woman crosses the finish line. When the top participants are identified, they are split between the top man and the top woman. If this split does not occur, the top performing woman would never be recognized even though she may have finished before hundreds of male participants. Proponents, deep down inside, recognize there are strength differences between male and female, and really do not want to push for the physical standards to match. Besides, the fuddledest woman is ordinarily only as strong as the weakest man (Kirkwood). Does the military want a less than capable com bat force? Most logical thinking human beings would say, NoThe secant major problem to be discussed is the disintegration of unit cohesion within the combat team. This disintegration takes place in many forms that are also found within civilian society such as mistrust and pregnancy. Trust within the unit is paramount. One scholar states, Just the perception of unfairness is ofttimes enough to poison the atmosphere (Simons). This perception of unfairness will be experienced by both men and women. For example, certain tasks are perceived to be unfairly assigned to men due to the mixed gender environment. Leaders do not want to be on the wrong end of such an intense situation and therefore chooses men to complete the task because they would be the ones performing it in an all male environment. When this takes place, mistrust in the chain of see creeps in and starts the breakdown in cohesion. On the other hand, if the women are assigned these types of tasks, they too will feel that t he leadership is treating them unfair based on gender. Where is the leadership to turn? It takes a delicate balancing act to make such a situation work. And when in combat, the leadership needs to know that each service member completely trusts their decision making ability or the whole unit is lost.Take a look at the incarnate world. Women are positioned throughout the company at all levels. Even though the women are there, they are still unevenly represented at the upper levels of management. Some may ask, Why? A simple explanation may be in order. There are things that only happen to women that may or may not impact their decision. The board of directors at these companies needs to be comfortable that their team will be intact for years to come and pregnancy disrupts this plan. In the corporate environment, many women extend their maternity leave and then(prenominal) willingly surrender high-status positions (or resign their commissions) after giving birth in order to spend mor e time at home (Simons). This type of behavior would not be acceptable in a Special Forces unit. These units spend years together perfecting their communication skills and fighting techniques. A decision of this magnitude cannot be made on a whim. No one has the right to tell a woman that she cannot start a family if she chooses to do so. The unit will suffer for this decision and will make it ineffective. Therefore, all women have to be considered potentially non-deployable for some length of time (Simons). The final problem with women being assigned in combat roles is that Americans are not ready for their daughters to be brought home in body bags. During World War I and World War II (WWII), Americans accepted the fact that war produces casualties on both sides and seen it was necessary to participate in such a frightening act. However, over the past forty years, some Americans have changed their perceptions on the need for war. Statistics show that the number of casualties have drastically decreased since WWII with Vietnam combat casualties being listed at 58,209 compared to the 5624 combat deaths of the entire Global War on Terrorism (Wikipedia). Now imagine that 14 percent of the deaths during the War on Terrorism were women. It paints a gloomful picture to know that nearly 800 women could have been killed in combat while performing a highly dangerous job that some feminists are advocating so strongly. If this was the case, the streets would be crowded with angry parents and family members protesting the use of their daughters in such combat roles.Women are needed to play the counterbalancing role for the men in society. If society is peaceful of individuals who all think alike, the country would go down the path of no return. Women should be spared the carnage and cruelty of war and turning a woman into the contour of person who views such gore without blinking an eye, or who participates in the wanton killing war requires, is a step down to cultural suicide (Kirkwood). It is usually the mothers who teach the youth of America and by turning them into killing machines, Americans are essentially destroying their future because the sanity check would not be place to write this country from becoming the war mongering state that some Americans believe it is today.Movies make the case for including women in combat roles and there are some who have fought valorously when thrust into a kill or be killed situation. However, the few women who have encountered such activities do not constitute the total restructuring of full combat units that are performing effectively as they now stand. Maybe in the future when strength capability and unit cohesion is not a part of the equation, then women will be utilized in a more modified combat role where service members will never come into contact with enemy forces. This would be the problem assigned to the Department of Defense Warfare engineers for a solution. How would combat units fight a clos e quarter without seeing the enemy face to face? When this problem is solved, then and only then women should be allowed to become a part of fully engaged combat unit.

Development of Forensic Science Methods
Development of Forensic scientific discipline MethodsThe Criminal Justice System of England in the 18th century initially consisted of perpetrators being privately prosecuted by their victim, with the victims playing the role of the criminal investigator gathering and submitting march, paying fees to cover the expenses of the constables time in order to apprehend the suspect, filing charges with the local magistrates and presenting evidence to the princely jury. However, the development of the CJS has resulted in professional bodies gathering and submitting evidence, alongside the representation of victims in court by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), victim support run and there argon an array of specialist courts in existence who handle cases specific to their knowledgeable subject. The Contribution of Forensic Science to Police InvestigationAs cited by Pyreck (2007, p. 4), The National Institue of Justice (NIJ. 1998) defines forensic science as the application of scientific knowledge to the legal system. Thornton (1997) observes, Forensic comes to us from the Latin forensus meaning of the forum. In ancient Rome, the forum was where governmental debates were held, but it was also where trials were held. It was the courthouse. So, forensic science has come to mean the application of the natural and physical sciences to the resolution of conflicts within a legal roachting. The Home Office Report (2005, p. vii) proposes that factors such as the degree of integration and communication between police and scientific support appeared to be consequential in determining retrieval rates. Forensic science was initially a conventional means to corroborate suspected offenders, however due to procedures such as DNA testing the report goes on to state that there is an increase in the proportion of volume evil offences detected using forensic evidence. In the UK, it is estimated that, for directly detected volume crimes, the main evidence securing the detection was forensic in more than one quarter of cases. Databases such as AFIS and NDNA run systems which bid comparable results from forensic evidence to apprehend offenders on the system with a detection rate of attaining perpetrators in seven in ten cases, which can engender to be the solution to a further 0.4 open cases on the system. Fingerprint evidence can be found 41% of the time at scenes of fomite crimes, 45% of non-residential burglaries and one in three residential burglary scenes with 10% of scenes providing DNA evidence. However, it proves to be difficult to collect forensic evidence when scenes are inaccessible, have been purged or the offender has been vigilant. It can also be difficult to convict suspects with a positive DNA match when there is insufficient evidence or the various(prenominal) provides a legitimate alibi. The use of forensic measures in court however, have proven to impact cases in a positive light namely for theft, run into and burgulary cases, with an inc rease of 17% for burglary alongside this, the appraisal of DNA and leafprint evidence augments a jurys decision to convict in cases of homicide and rape.Methodology Applied when Gathering breed Spatter Evidence and Other Samples in Criminal InvestigationForensic Scientists can gather a more accurate profile of the perpetrator and how the crime was committed by gathering and analysing the following specimensHair analysisFiber AnalysisGlass FragmentsPaint Chips AnalysisSoil AnalysisBallisticsToolmarksBitemarksFingerprints footwearTire ImpressionsBlood Spatter AnalysisDNA AnalysisBlood, Semen, and Saliva (DNA matching and typing blood-spatter analysisNonhuman DNA (dog, cat, deer, whales)Drugs (drug identification, forensic pathology)Explosives (bomb and arson identifications and beginning traces)Fibers (fiber typing, generator identification, and matching)Hair (hair typing and matching)Fingerprints (fingerprint matching, AFIS, etc.)Bones (gender and age typing, identification of remains weapon identification)Wound analysis (weapon typing physical movement patterning)Firearms and ammunition (ballistics and tool-mark identification) gunpowder residues (shootings, suicides)Glass (glass typing and matching)Foot, tire and fabric impressions (impression typing and matching)Paint (paint typing and matching in automobile collisions, hit and run)Petroleum products (product typing and matching)Plastic bags (typing and matching garbage bags as suffocation device or when used in transports)Soils and minerals (mineral typing and matching forensic geology)Tool marks (tool identification and matching homicides, burglary, post invasions, etc.)Wood and vegetative matter (plant typing and matching plant DNA)RAPD matching limnology, Forest Service LabInsects, larvae, maggots forensic entomology time of death fixture crumbles)(Kiely, F. T. 2006, p. 50)One of the underlying principles behind forensic analysis is the concept that when two individuals come in liaison with one another, or if an individual comes in contact with an object, there is a high probability of transfer of biological material (skin, hair, etc.). The transfer does not always have to be as obvious as blood, (Missouri offer Highway Patrol, p. 22). Due to this, it is important to collect samples from all those whom have been in contact with the victim and the scene of the crime to avoid wrongful implications by eliminating those individuals whom do not match the suspects DNA profile.Analysing Blood, Semen and Saliva SamplesHair is a biological specimen of the body and may be associated back to its source through DNA analysis (although DNA is not always successfully extracted from hair), (Missouri State Highway Patrol page. 30). Alternatively, materials stained with blood, seeded player, saliva can be collected, be ensured to be air dried before placed in a paper bag and sealed, then tagged with the identification of the contents, exhibit number, initial and date. For poriferous mate rial such as cloth and leather, investigators are advised to cut the area containing the stain however for nonporous materials such as glass and metal, stains are removed via a cotton swab that has been moistened with water and for liquid stains, a clean cotton swab is immersed in the sample. In terms of collecting semen samples, when the specimen is not drying-out, alternatively, condoms are to be frozen. When collecting a Buccal (Oral) swab, two to four swabs must be vigorously rubbed on the interior of the archness for a minimum of 30secs to a minute to recover epithelial (skin) tissue which must then be labelled with the individuals names. The Application of Fingerprint IdentificationWhen fingerprint evidence found in a body of water is collected, it should remain in the original water. A watertight container should be lowered into the water and allowed to fill. This allows the evidence to be placed in the container without exposing it to the air. If fingerprint evidence found i n water is allowed to dry before processing, the likelihood of developing prints of value dramatically decreases.(Missouri State Highway Patrol) page. 17)The Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is a database which stores fingerprints that have been taken from suspects, whether they have been incarcerated or not due to which perpetrators are easily identified, without having a definitive suspect, as their prints are already present on the system. potential fingerprints on nonporous materials deteriorate rapidly upon prolonged exposure to high temperature and humidity. Consequently, items should be processed and/or forwarded to a laboratory as soon as possible A ruled scale should be used when photographing latent prints. Latent prints on materials are to be handled with gloves and placed in a cellophane protector, whereas latent prints on surfaces such as plastic cards, metal plates and glass bottles are dusted with finger print powder and then extracted with lifting tape and placed on a 3 x 5 card, which contrasts in color with the dusting powder used.Behavioural Science SupportAs cited by Alison and Rainbow (2011), the crime scene is presumed to reflect the murderers behaviour and personality in much the same way as furnishings reveal the homeowners disposition (Douglas et al., 1992 21)(Alison, L. and Rainbow, L. 2011 p. 19)Full verbal case briefing and access to the SIO/investigation teamAll relevant statementsCrime reportsAny officers reports/status reportsPathology and forensic reports/findingsFull set of crime scene and pst -mortem photographsAvailable analysis (e.g. telephony, palynology, entomology, etc)Relevant mapsVisit to all relevant scenes allows the BIA to gain fuller understanding of the decision-making process of the offender. Such information is not routinely available from (the above mentioned methods), where often the evidential focus is too restrictive to provide the necessary behavioural perspective.(Alison, L. and Rainbow , L. 2011 p. 25)Behavioural Investigative Advisors ( twist) provide a theoretical perspective in investigations via the use of forensic psychology to support investigators by implementing methods such as crime scene assessment DNA showing suspect prioritisation familial DNA nominal pool generation interview strategy media strategy offender background characteristics and investigation strategy, (Newburn, T. Et al. p.. 658).In order to fulfill an accurate evaluation, BIAs require case materials such asPlease refer to Appendix. 1 Example of the BIAs work. The BIA are able bodies whom provide expertness in offender profiling to connect cases where correlating physical evidence is not evident. The Serious Crime Analysis Section (SCAS) of the NPIA, through their mandate to collect and analyse a range of sexually motivated offences throughout the UK, now has more than 16,500 offences on ViCLAS (Violent Crimes Linkage Analysis System) database, (Alison, L. and Rainbow, L. 2011 p. 25).Appen dixAppendix 1 Example of the BIAs work.(Alison, L. and Rainbow, L. 2011) Case Study 2, folder 1FF, 194528.jpg

Zara: Information Technology For Fast Fashion :: Problem, Solution, Case Study
Problem Statement In 2003, Zaras CIO must decide whether to upgrade the retailers IT infrastructure and capabilities. At the time of the case, the friendship relies on an out-of-date operating strategy for its store terminals and has no full-time network in place across stores. Despite these limitations, however, Zaras parent lodge, Inditex, has built an extraordinarily well-performing value chain that is by far the most responsive in the industry. Therefore the major problem to the company is to decide whether it has to upgrade the present system and by doing so, risking the reliability they have with the current system or to continue with the present DOS based system which will non be harmonious for future changes or improvements. Analysis & Recommendation Zaras main strategy is the ability to respond very quickly to the demands of target customers which called for identifying trends of the customer in advance. The company has been able to identify the trends and meet the dem and with the help of its autonomously organized structure and its impelling value chain systems. The present system followed by Zara has been very effective and very easy to maintain, which as a exit has persuaded the company to continue without any change in the present system so far. The problem that Zara faces overcompensate now is that the system that they use, P-O-S (Point of Sale terminals), runs on DOS which Microsoft does not support anymore and any hardware change in the POS terminal will not be compatible with the current POS software. Although the sense of urgency for the change may not be that high, investing in IT infrastructure is a must as MS Dos is an obsolete technology and there is no contract or guarantee from their POS terminal vendor that they will continue supplying the said(prenominal) terminal with out much changes in the hardware for any specific period of time, therefore change is unavoidable. The other main issue that Zara faces is that the stores don t share inventory information electronically and hence inventory management becomes highly difficult and manual. The decision making process is based on the head of employees throughout the company instead of relying on a small set of decision makers the majority of the decisions were made by store managers and as a result they placed orders for the items rather than simply accepting and displaying what headquarters decided to send them.

Comfort Of Our Own Homes Essay -- social issues
Comfort Of Our Own HomesViolence is very wide spread in society today and is growing at an appalling rate among our children. Everyday we seem to hear of children beating on one another, ganging up on the elderly, invading homes, and even murdering people. One has to question how much imprint different sorts of media have on our children. From the time we are very young we can be exposed to seeing and hearing horrible acts of violence on the television and radio, and through video games. Sadly, I believe this is where it all starts - in the comfort of our own homes. Over and over again children watch violent programs and map video games with the goal of killing others. Eventually many of them find it amusing and enjoyable to see others being hurt and killed. Parents, in general, are not protect their kids from this invasion of media violence. Many children laugh at violence and think its funny to hurt others. According to David Grossman, a former psychology professor and creator of a Pulitzer-nominated book on the psychology of violence, the most dangerous of all media is that which teaches the child to laugh. Once you get beyond the early age where kids are immobilise and mesmerized by TV and cant tell the difference between fantasy and reality, you find they begin to laugh at the violence. (Grierson, Adbusters 2) Children who gaze a lot of television become hardened to violence. Media violence systematically brutalizes and desensitizes its r...

Pros and Cons of Weight Reducing Diets Essay -- Health Nutrition Diet
Pros and Cons of W octet Reducing DietsThe article Health Advantages and Disadvantages of Weight-Reducing Diets A Computer Analysis and Critical Review outlines eight diets that were examined and how the researchers and doctors looked at the potential long term effects of each one. The diets examined were Atkins, Protein Power, Sugar Busters, Zone, ADA Exchange, High-Fiber Fitness, Pritikin and Ornish. The research team created formulas using computer software, menu plans with recommended snacks and looking at the food pyramid to estimate coronary heart disease (a disease of the heart and arteries that blocks blood flow to the heart). They found that diets high in protein and fat, protein being a complex organic molecule necessary for the proper functioning of an organism and low in carbohydrates, an organic compound that serves as a major power source, produce a greater risk for coronary heart disease and diabetes. Over 50% of Americans are overweight. This has led to the creation of many different diets. rough of these diets promote healthy eating and long-term weight loss while others are just fad diets with unsafe recommendations. It is suggested by expert panels that people should follow through about 30% fat, from which only 10% can be saturated fat (a fat of animal origin) and less than 300 mg. of cholesterin daily. Cholesterol is a white substance found in animal tissues that serves the cell membranes. The first thing the researchers did was to identify which diets were currently popular. They then looked at those diets that have been around for a long time. Each diet examined was different. The Atkins diet states that a high-fat ... ...tein Power diets are very high in total and saturated fat compared to current dietetical guidelines. Long-term uses of these diets for weight maintenance are likely to significantly increase cholesterol concentrations and risks for coronary heart disease. Diets that are higher in carbohydrates and fiber truly lower these risks. High fat diets do have short-term weight loss but the potential hazards for worsening the risk for heart disease and cholesterol problems override the short-term benefits.
